ZamCulture Notes 3

-Zambians are very hospitable. If you can't find your way they will gladly walk with you the full distance to your destination, just to ensure you make it there.

-Zambians feel obliged to feed you even if you arrive unannounced. So if you time your visits right...you get a free meal out of it.

-Zambians love dancing in front of mirrors. Love it. If you're dancing right next to them at a club, they will not even see you. It's like Narcissus at the pool.

-You have to be direct and explicit with Zambians. If you offer a Zambian a cookie from a box, he or she will take the whole box; They'll take what you're handing them. The 'take one' implication doesn't exist here.

-Schoolkids in Zambia know discipline. If you do something bad, you might have to slash grass for a few hours that day. (And if you're good? Well, you still get to slash grass or polish the floors because there's no such thing as janitors here. We don't know how good we have it!)

Mike: Haha, not yet. In fact the Peace Corps very likely would send me home if I did (they're very strict on that).

Ann: Yes! A box of cookies, and a bag of bananas, and a can of candies... you'd think I'd learn already!!!
